With a nod to the Baroque master Tiepolo, Simpson’s intricate wall paper design was mechanically produced with raised surface printing. Its spiralling ellipses and shifting backdrop of dappled tonal grey discs transformed the rear gallery creating an intimate almost domestic space.

Using wallpaper marked a new departure for Simpson, who is best known for his large scale paintings which reference grand works from the Abstract Expressionist canon, whose influence resonate playfully throughout his work. The routered works commissioned for Bloomberg SPACE were also a new development for Simpson who experimented with using partially mirrored perspex resulting in complex broken surfaces of mirror ground and non-reflective routered mark.

Essay[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1105″ alignment=”center” img_link_to_large=”yes” img_link_lightbox=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”1106″ alignment=”center” img_link_to_large=”yes” img_link_lightbox=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”1107″ alignment=”center” img_link_to_large=”yes” img_link_lightbox=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”1108″ alignment=”center” img_link_to_large=”yes” img_link_lightbox=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”1109″ alignment=”center” img_link_to_large=”yes” img_link_lightbox=”yes” img_size=”large”][vc_separator][vc_column_text]About: DJ Simpson
(b.
